¡Hay Liga! Barça’s season began last Sunday with an emphatic 5-0 away win to Elche, but their home opener tonight is a much more difficult test against Bilbao. The visitors started with a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Sevilla, but they got screwed in the 11th-minute with a very harsh red card.
Unai Simon, Nico Williams and Aymeric Laporte (Athletic’s World Cup-winning trifecta) will be looking to create a little justice of their own, but that’s hard to do against Lamine Yamal, Pedri and Fermín López.
It’s crazy to think how Spain won it all without even breathing a word of complaint about missing Fermín through injury. If the USMNT had been missing a player of Fermín’s quality before the tournament, Trump would’ve forced Infantino to postpone the whole thing for another year.
If the sport was somehow your top 100 vs. their top 100 out on the pitch, Spain would beat our asses 87 to 1 with the lone U.S. strike being a Sebastian Berhalter free kick at 90+4′.

Back to the top of the table and a debut for Rodri: that’s a good night for Barça. It could’ve been ugly for Athletic but Unai Simón provided eights saves. Looks like it will be a painful season up in Bilbao, although you never know with the Copa del Rey.
Barcelona have shown why they’re still the favorites after two matches despite Real Madrid equalling them on six points. You have to favor Barça’s superior system over Real’s profundity of self, and the Rodri addition only strengthens that argument. Still, it’s impossible to look past Mbappé-Vini-Bellingham+8.
Only 59 days until El Clásico.
